Social Place-Sharing App

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Zaagster — what it is, how it works, and how it compares to other apps.

What is Zaagster? +

Zaagster is a social place-sharing app for iOS, Android, and web. It lets you save restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, and hidden gems, organize them into lists and trips, and share them with friends. Think of it as a social network built around places — like a shared map with your inner circle.

How does Zaagster compare to Google Maps? +

Google Maps is a navigation and search tool. Zaagster is a social place-sharing app. While Google Maps has a "Saved places" feature, it isn't designed for social sharing — you can't follow a friend's curated list, plan a trip together, or build a community around places. Zaagster is built specifically for finding great spots through people you trust.

How does Zaagster compare to Foursquare or Swarm? +

Foursquare and Swarm focus on check-ins and crowdsourced venue tips. Zaagster focuses on curated lists and social sharing within your personal network. Instead of broadcasting your location publicly, you share carefully chosen recommendations with friends. Zaagster also adds trips, events, and communities — features Foursquare/Swarm don't offer.

How does Zaagster compare to Tripadvisor or Yelp? +

Tripadvisor and Yelp are mass-market review platforms. Zaagster is a social network for your personal circle. Instead of reading reviews from strangers, you discover places saved by friends whose tastes you already know and trust. Zaagster is about personal curation, not crowd opinion.

Is Zaagster free? +

Yes. Zaagster is free to use. Core features — saving places, building lists, following friends, sharing collections — are all free. Sign up at zaagster.com/app.

Which platforms is Zaagster available on? +

Zaagster is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works on iOS, Android, and desktop browsers — no app store required. Visit zaagster.com/app and add it to your home screen for a full native experience.

Can I import my Google Maps saved places? +

Yes. Zaagster supports importing your saved places from Google Maps via the Google Data Portability API. Migrate your entire library in minutes from the Settings menu inside the app.

What kinds of places can I save? +

Any place: restaurants, bars, cafes, coffee shops, hotels, museums, viewpoints, beaches, parks, shops, nightclubs, and more. Zaagster supports dozens of categories and lets you add personal notes and photos to each place.

Who makes Zaagster? +

Zaagster is a product of Zaags, operated by RUDLU ULDA, a company registered in Lisbon, Portugal. The app launched in 2024 and is available worldwide.

Does Zaagster have a Meet or dating feature? Is it free? +

Yes — Zaagster includes a Meet feature that lets you discover and connect with other users who share similar tastes in places. Compatibility is based on your place preferences and the venues you love, not a photo swipe.

Meet has two sides: Travel Meet — finding travel companions, locals, or people with matching taste in a destination — is free. The dating / romantic matchmaking side of Meet, which surfaces potential matches based on shared place affinity, is a premium paid feature requiring a subscription or in-app purchase.

Free users can fully use Travel Meet. The dating capabilities require an upgrade.

How do place lists work? What can I do with them? +

Lists are one of the most versatile features in Zaagster. A list is a named, curated collection of places you create yourself — for example: "Best rooftop bars in Barcelona", "Weekend trip to Porto", or "My go-to coffee shops".

Here is what you can do with lists:

Lists can be as narrow or as broad as you like — from a hyper-specific niche ("natural wine bars in Paris") to a full travel guide for a city.

Does my friends list stay up to date automatically? +

Yes — shared lists are dynamic. When a collaborator adds or removes a place from a list, everyone who has that list (or its shared link) sees the updated version automatically — no manual refresh needed. The list is a living document, not a snapshot.

This is what makes Zaagster ideal for group travel planning: one person maintains the list, and every participant always sees the most current version in real time.

Can I share a list with someone who doesn't have the app? +

Yes — every list on Zaagster has a shareable dynamic link. Anyone can open it in a browser, no account needed. The link always reflects the latest version of the list: if you add a place after sharing, the recipient sees it immediately when they revisit the link. There is no need to re-send an updated copy — the list lives at a permanent URL that stays current in real time.

Can I ask friends or communities for place recommendations? +

Yes. Zaagster has an Ask for a list feature: you post a request (e.g. "Best sushi in Tokyo?" or "Hidden beach bars in Lisbon?") and friends or community members respond with a dynamic list of places. Each response is a live list — not a static text reply — so you can follow it, import places from it, or build on it yourself. This makes Zaagster a social recommendation engine, not just a personal bookmark tool.

What are communities in Zaagster? +

Communities are interest-based groups centred around a shared taste in places — for example: "Best wine bars in Europe", "Hidden surf spots", or "Vegan-friendly restaurants worldwide". Any user can create a community or join existing ones.

Inside a community you can: share and discover curated place lists contributed by members, post place recommendations, ask the group for suggestions, and keep a shared map of the community's favourite spots. Communities turn Zaagster into a collective local knowledge base — curated by people who actually care.

Can I create events on Zaagster? Can communities organise events? +

Yes. Zaagster lets you create and join events linked to real places — a dinner at a specific restaurant, a rooftop gathering, a local meetup, a guided walk. Events have a venue, a date, and a guest list.

Communities can also organise their own events: a wine community can host a tasting at a member-recommended bar; a photography community can arrange a photo walk through a neighbourhood. Community events are visible to all members and can be open or invite-only. This makes Zaagster the only place-sharing app that connects discovery, social curation, and real-world meetups in one flow.
